Member-Owned Solar Interconnect

With an increasing number of homeowners investing in solar, an upfront understanding of member-owned interconnection is important in your entire decision-making process about your energy options.

While power on the utility grid normally flows from power plants to customers, the grid can also receive small amounts of power from small solar installations. Feeding renewable energy to the cooperative's power grid requires an interconnection agreement with Coastal Electric.

At the same time, interconnection agreements allow homeowners to pull power from the power lines when their solar panels aren’t producing enough energy.

This give-and-take process requires utility interconnection with Coastal Electric, so specific steps must be taken during installation and an interconnection agreement completed.
