Updates from NRECA
Our co-op is a mem­ber of NRECA, a nation­al orga­ni­za­tion head­quar­tered in Arling­ton, VA, that works to help elec­tric coop­er­a­tives nav­i­gate the evolv­ing ener­gy indus­try. As a co-op employ­ee, you ben­e­fit from NRECA mem­ber­ship through prod­ucts, ser­vices and train­ing pro­grams, as well as health care, retire­ment and finan­cial plan­ning resources.

Here are a few recent updates from NRECA:

• Pres­i­dent Trump’s ener­gy pol­i­cy announce­ments indi­cate a strong desire to take a new direc­tion. NRECA is already engag­ing the Trump admin­is­tra­tion to advance a pro-ener­gy pol­i­cy agen­da with a core focus on reli­a­bil­i­ty and afford­abil­i­ty. Our vision for America’s ener­gy future includes:
  • Responds to sky­rock­et­ing elec­tric­i­ty demand with a durable plan for co-ops and con­sumers
  • Removes reg­u­la­to­ry bur­dens
  • Pro­motes the long-term well­be­ing of rur­al com­mu­ni­ties

• NRECA issued a response to the North Amer­i­can Elec­tric Reli­a­bil­i­ty Corp.’s (NERC) recent 2024–25 Win­ter Reli­a­bil­i­ty Assess­ment. The assess­ment found that many regions in North Amer­i­ca remain at ele­vat­ed risk of ener­gy short­falls this win­ter.
  • Freez­ing tem­per­a­tures affect­ing nat­ur­al gas sys­tems and con­tin­u­ing recov­ery efforts from Hur­ri­canes Helene and Mil­ton could strain the grid and lead to ener­gy emer­gen­cies.
  • The assess­ment not­ed that elec­tric heat­ing, trans­porta­tion sys­tems and new data cen­ters are push­ing elec­tric demand high­er. At the same time, meet­ing that demand is becom­ing more chal­leng­ing as always-avail­able gen­er­a­tion resources are retired and replaced by inter­mit­tent and ener­gy-lim­it­ed resources.
