Updates from NRECA

Our co-op is a mem­ber of NRECA, a nation­al orga­ni­za­tion head­quar­tered in Arling­ton, VA, that works to help elec­tric coop­er­a­tives nav­i­gate the evolv­ing ener­gy indus­try. As a co-op employ­ee, you ben­e­fit from NRECA mem­ber­ship through prod­ucts, ser­vices and train­ing pro­grams, as well as health care, retire­ment and finan­cial plan­ning resources.

Here are a few recent NRECA activ­i­ties:

• On Novem­ber 6, NRECA shared a press release stat­ing Amer­i­c­as Elec­tric Co-ops are com­mit­ted and ready to work with the Trump Admin­is­tra­tion and new mem­bers of Con­gress to strength­en coop­er­a­tive com­mu­ni­ties. The release out­lined ongo­ing pol­i­cy pri­or­i­ties, includ­ing safe­guard­ing reli­a­bil­i­ty, reform­ing fed­er­al per­mit­ting, enhanc­ing wild­fire pro­tec­tion, pro­tect­ing the Low­er Snake Riv­er dams, defend­ing direct pay, main­tain­ing New Era fund­ing, pro­mot­ing infra­struc­ture mod­ern­iza­tion and deploy­ing rur­al broad­band.
• Hur­ri­canes Helene and Mil­ton heav­i­ly impact­ed elec­tric coop­er­a­tives across the south­east in Octo­ber. Co-ops demon­strat­ed strength and resolve as thou­sands of linework­ers from across the coun­try respond­ed to aid fel­low co-ops. NRECA has been laser-focused on sup­port­ing affect­ed mem­bers by mak­ing con­nec­tions with gov­ern­ment agen­cies, coor­di­nat­ing with oth­er asso­ci­a­tions, ensur­ing that resources go where they’re need­ed and resolv­ing chal­lenges that arise.
• The Depart­ment of Ener­gy recent­ly award­ed NRECA Research $5 mil­lion in new fund­ing to strength­en elec­tric coop­er­a­tives’ cyber defens­es. The fund­ing will help increase grid secu­ri­ty train­ing and improve peer-to-peer infor­ma­tion shar­ing. These new pro­grams will engage over 400 co-ops across the coun­try.
