Updates from NRECA
Our co-op is a member of NRECA, a national organization headquartered in Arlington, VA, that works to help electric cooperatives navigate the evolving energy industry. As a co-op employee, you benefit from NRECA membership through products, services and training programs, as well as health care, retirement and financial planning resources.
Here are a few recent NRECA activities:
- On November 6, NRECA shared a press release stating Americas Electric Co-ops are committed and ready to work with the Trump Administration and new members of Congress to strengthen cooperative communities. The release outlined ongoing policy priorities, including safeguarding reliability, reforming federal permitting, enhancing wildfire protection, protecting the Lower Snake River dams, defending direct pay, maintaining New Era funding, promoting infrastructure modernization and deploying rural broadband.
- Hurricanes Helene and Milton heavily impacted electric cooperatives across the southeast in October. Co-ops demonstrated strength and resolve as thousands of lineworkers from across the country responded to aid fellow co-ops. NRECA has been laser-focused on supporting affected members by making connections with government agencies, coordinating with other associations, ensuring that resources go where they’re needed and resolving challenges that arise.
- The Department of Energy recently awarded NRECA Research $5 million in new funding to strengthen electric cooperatives’ cyber defenses. The funding will help increase grid security training and improve peer-to-peer information sharing. These new programs will engage over 400 co-ops across the country.
